Sandbourne Garden Rooms was co-founded by long term friends Rhys Dear and Scott Kelly. Having enjoyed successes as teammates on both the footballing and cricketing fields, they are both now committed to building a winning partnership in the design and construction of high-quality garden rooms.
Rhys graduated from Bournemouth University in 2003 with an honours degree in Product Design. He has previously enjoyed a successful career in the commercial design industry, initially with a local castor manufacturing company and latterly with a market-leading kitchen ventilation provider. Rhys has enjoyed a diverse career experiencing a wide-range of design and production methods. His own hand-built garden room still functions as his home office, but has recently been overrun by his young daughter as a TV and playroom! His garden room provided his initial realisation that creating garden rooms and outdoor spaces is his real working-life passion.
Scott has enjoyed a working career in kitchen manufacturing & installation, home improvements and general building. Scott combined that extensive knowledge and has over the last 15 years, refurbished and renovated houses in Christchurch to a very high standard. This has given Scott considerable insight in to modern building and construction practices, which are key to a successful, well-managed project.
Our combined industry experiences, partnered with our attention to detail and a passion to provide a first-class customer service will provide the bedrock of core values that Sandbourne Garden Rooms aims to offer all of our clients, every time.
The company name "Sandbourne" pays homage to local poet and novelist Thomas Hardy (1840-1928). The English author, born east of Dorchester, based all of his novels in the south and southwest of England. Sandbourne was the name Hardy chose in his novels to represent the area of Bournemouth - the area in which Rhys and Scott have established their business. Our core garden room ranges are named after towns and villages that feature in Hardy's fictional Wessex!
